BMW has used this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event in Italy to mark the 75th anniversary of the original BMW 328 classic of the late 1930s by displaying the BMW 328 Hommage concept car. Karl Bäumer, CEO of BMW Group Classic, said that with the BMW 328 Hommage, they wish to pay homage to the passion and inventiveness of the fathers of the BMW 328.
The BMW 328 Hommage aims show how the designers of that time, Fritz Fiedler and Rudolf Schleicher, might have built the BMW 328 using modern technology.
The car combines design elements of the Vision ConnectedDrive concept with the twin elongated kidney grille setup. The striking front-end layout, mesh placed behind the entire face, a large carbon fiber “X” nose and an unusual headlight design impart futuristic looks to the Hommage.
The BMW 328 Touring Coupé still holds the record for the highest average speed on the Mille Miglia circuit. The entire interior structure is made of CFRP, which takes the lightweight construction concept of the BMW 328 into the inside of the car both visually and functionally. The car gets its power from a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine.
