America’s Founding Fathers Probably Smoked Pot

Evidence suggests that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison enjoyed growing and smoking marijuana.

So says historian and journalist Harvey Wasserman, writing in this month’s Hustler magazine. Wasserman used quotes, published papers and journal entries from the Founding Fathers to conclude each “almost certainly” indulged in pot for recreational use.

What doesn’t seem to be remotely in dispute is the that the three men — as well as Ben Franklin — were involved in the farming and/or production of hemp, which they used for paper. In fact, Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on hemp paper and Madison did the same for the Bill of Rights.

So, all of you anti-marijuana advocates (assuming there is still such a thing) can put that in your pipe and smoke it.
